UNIT E
Designed in conjunction with Surrey county Councils office recycling
campaign, Oliver has designed a recycling unit that combines the
practical aspects of recycling office waste with the social side of
sustainability to create an object that becomes a real feature for the
office. Fabricated from oiled birch faced plywood with recycled plastic
tops, the Unit E has 5 compartments for recycling office waste such as
paper, card, plastics metal and glass and a series of drawers to contain
smaller items such as batteries and printer cartridges.
Information boards tell office workers about community aspects such as
local lift share schemes, local charity shops, wood recycling centres,
local travel details, car share schemes, bicycle paths and even has a
swap shop board to encourage colleagues to share what they don't want
any more. A built in energy meter displays how much electricity is being
consumed at any one point whilst plants actually clean the air of toxins
making a healthier place to work
The Unit E encourages recycling, social interaction and is a focal point
for office sustainability. The prototype Unite E is currently being
trialled in the offices in Surrey.
