ECO HOME REFURBISHMENT
Oliver has completed a full eco refurbishment of his own home in Brighton. The aim has been to reduce the carbon footprint of the house from 10 tonnes per year down to 2.5 tonnes.
This 1960s detached house has been fully insulated (including an external insulating render) and had 4 heating systems installed including a condensing boiler, feeding under floor heating, a heat recovery system, solar water heating panels and a wood burning stove.
Water use has been reduced with the addition of low flow showers, toilets, a water butt, a foot pedal operated tap and a diverter valve for the bath water.
The use of natural light has been maximised by doubling the amount of glazing on the ground floor and the fitting of slim line Velfac windows, and glass panel internal doors. To supplement this, a cutting edge low energy LED lighting system has been installed throughout.
The interior reflects Oliver's passion and commitment to sustainable interiors as written about in his last book Urban Eco Chic. His aim has been to create a home that functions efficiently whilst creating a warm and nurturing space to live in for himself and his family.
