Workshop 1: Reducing waste creatively – getting hands on
The idea behind our ‘Meet – Make – Mend’ workshop (Premiered at Clerkenwell Design Week for Interface) was to connect to Interface’s #ClimateTakeback campaign through repairing & reusing old belongings & to bring people together as a community. Our team were on hand with a selection of expert craftspeople and fixers to give a practical experience of reusing, refreshing and upcycling a wide range of materials and household items. Fixing things saves money and helps the planet. It’s as simple as that!
Workshops included; Electronic repairs with the Restart Project, Clothing/textile repair through visible mending with Work Well UK, Repair & restoration of leather accessories with Craftsman Wolfram Lohr and Using basket weaving techniques & found materials with artisan Sarah Gardner to create jewellery & handles for baskets & bags.
“Engaging people with the circular economy is a subject Interface is passionate about and this workshop offered an opportunity to bring this topic to life in a hands-on and engaging way. We were delighted with the turnout, with the session bringing over 150 visitors through the doors of our showroom during Clerkenwell Design Week,” said Interface.

Workshop 2: Biophilia – getting your hands dirty
We also intend on offering practical ‘Biophilia’ workshops giving attendees the opportunity to learn about how incorporating biophilic design elements that focus on human’s innate attraction to nature and natural processes can boost health & wellbeing. The learning outcomes for this workshop will look at how we can better connect with nature in cities including; natural navigation, cloud spotting & urban fauna and flora identification. There will be a hands-on element to these workshops too, where participants can get their hands dirty by creating their own terrariums or string plant containers.

Workshop 3: Biophilic Design – turning your hand to creating happy, healthier spaces
We have been delivering practical Biophilic Design workshops to Architects and Designers for many years. These are now being opened up to a broader audience of people and organisations wanting to improve their spaces. In this workshop participants will learn how to improve nature connections in their spaces, designing their interiors to support the health and happiness of the people who spend time in them. The workshop will include an introduction to Biophilic Design as well as practical exercises in which participants will learn how to re-design a space incorporating Biophilic Design elements. Everyone will leave with their own set of guidelines and a good understanding of how to apply Biophilic Design principles to their own spaces.
Attendees from this workshop have commented, “Oliver’s expert knowledge, highly engaging presentation style and passion for the subject of Biophilic Design has been instrumental in placing [attendees company] at forefront of […] interior design.”
At Oliver Heath Design we believe that these workshops have become a vital first step in inspiring people to start looking at their lives in a more sustainable way. It’s paramount to the OHD team that our workshops deliver deep insight with a practical element so that there is opportunity for these events to bring a sense of community to the participants too.
