“What is becoming clear to all, post pandemic, is that the buildings we surround ourselves with play a significant role in our physical and mental wellbeing, and our homes are at the very heart of this.” - Oliver Heath

Oliver Heath Design teamed up with Westfield London to explore the theme of health and wellbeing in the home, curating a pop-up exhibition situated in the heart of their West London shopping centre. The ‘Healthy Home’ pop-up was created to both educate visitors about the benefits of designing for wellbeing and to inspire them to usher nature into their own homes, using Biophilic Design principles, through thoughtfully curated room sets.

Over the last few years, we have spent more time in our homes than ever before. This has placed immense pressure on our domestic dwellings and has also instilled a renewed sense of how important the home is in our day-to-day lives; it needs to be more than just an environment in which we live, but it must also be a healthy one in which we can thrive.

From the garden to the bedroom,  ‘Healthy Homes’ took visitors out of the bustling shopping environment and into a rich multi-sensory restorative journey. Here they could explore how our sense of sight, smell, sound, and touch can be positively impacted by incorporating natural elements into the home environment. A selection of furnishings and finishes from Westfield’s Home Quarter retailers illustrated how to create diverse spaces to support the entire household. Additionally, Biophilic Design concepts such as natural scenting and soundscapes were interwoven throughout the pop-up home to demonstrate how they can support wellbeing.

The pop-up contained a selection of tips and tricks from our book ‘Design a Healthy Home’, as well as compelling research as to why health and wellbeing should be prioritised within the home setting. Check out the pictures below.
